What Does It Mean to Commission Art?

Commissioning art is when a client hires an artist to create an artwork based on their request.

How does commissioning art work?

Commissioning art is the process by which an artist creates a work of art on a client’s invitation.  I'll help you with considering the size and colors, presenting you with potential ideas, and helping you to clarify ideas.

 

How much does commission art cost?

Commissions cost more than an original piece of artwork. This is due to the process and time it takes for them to create something bespoke for you. However, what you gain from it as a unique and personal piece, which is priceless. A 50% deposit will be required prior to the commencement of the commission.

How long will it take to create a commission?

A commission can usually be carried out within the time frame you set. I will arrange a schedule and will keep you informed of how the commission is progressing.

Choosing the Artwork's Size

If you're uncertain about exact sizing, I suggest using a craft paper template held on a wall with masking tape for a visual preview (avoiding marks from traditional duct tape). Additionally you can send me a picture of your space and I can suggest what size would be better for you.

Once you decide on a preferred size, I'll swiftly provide you with artwork pricing and shipping estimates, based on your location.

Generating Artwork Ideas

Do you have some special pieces from my collection that you like? 

We can arrange a call to discuss your room's color scheme, mood board, or any thoughts you have about the final piece. While a precise image isn't necessary, I'm more interested in capturing your mood, colors and general ideas.

Upon gathering these insights, I'll take 8-14 working days to craft a digital sketch of the artwork, which I can also superimpose onto an interior photo for a realistic preview.

Once the sketch is finalized, I'll commence the creative process. The completion time spans 8 to 16 days, depending on complexity. I'll provide progress updates throughout.

Pricing and Payment

To begin, I request a 50% upfront payment. This covers supplies and materials needed for your artwork. Following our initial discussion, I'll present a digital sketch that can be incorporated into an interior photo for a comprehensive preview.

Once the artwork is completed and meets your satisfaction, the remaining 50% payment will be due.

I accept PayPal, Wise transactions, and direct bank transfers for your convenience.

Shipping Details

Please note that I ship artworks rolled in a sturdy tube to ensure safe transit and reduce shipping costs. Upon arrival, you can have the work stretched or framed by a local professional. I'm happy to assist you in locating a reputable framing lab in your area.

I offer both Express and Standard shipping choices, with shipping times of 4-5 and 10-15 working days, respectively. Once you let me know your preferred size, I'll provide you with the corresponding pricing details.

What if I don’t like the final piece?

This is highly unlikely as I carry out a consultation with you before the commission begins, so there is total communication and a thorough understanding of what you want. If you enjoy my work, it is unlikely I will do anything but true justice to your piece. However, please note commissioned artworks will not be refunded and the full price agreed to is payable on completion of your commission.
